Bridesmaid!

I want to tell everybody about the wedding I was just in a couple of weekends ago! As I have mentioned my best friend Juli was getting married on January 17th, and I can't believe that has come and gone. I felt SO blessed to see her get wed off to a wonderful man, Blake. It was awesome to be apart of the planning with her and her family, and then finally see it come into one piece. It was perfect! :) Juli and Blake have moved to Savannah, and therefore that means... lots of trips to the beach while they are both studying to be in the medical field.

My second semester started... and I actually might have some good academic potential this semester. lol. I am taking Psychology, Educational Psychology, Statistics, and some English. Don't get me wrong... it's tough classes, but I think I can balance a lot better this semester. The organized geek I am I put all my assignments on a calendar already, and really none of them all happen at once, so hopefully that will help a little bit this semester. I have tough teachers this semester, and I love that! I need tough teachers because if I have nice lazy teachers... I tend to be the same way. lol. I try to stay nice though throughout the semester though. ;)

I have an interesting vent on my major (goal). A couple of new ideas popped into my head with Special Education as my major. There is no doubt I want to be in Special Education but there are different severities of Special Ed. students that you can teach. I was thinking just teach the kids with learning disabilities like ADHD and ADD and still be in the general education classroom. I want something a little more challenging, and I thought of being a MOID/MID teacher which basically means I will be teaching children with mild/moderate intellectual disabilities. I have been talking to a neighbor that teaches severely/profound students with intellectual disabilities and she interned with students with mild/moderate disabilities when she went to Valdosta State and gave me tons of info. She has tons of faith that I could do MID/MOID, and she said that you will have your own challenges, but MID/MOID students tend to be high functioning compared to SID/PID. SID/PID students tend to be a little more on the violent side (sometimes), and needy in regards to the bathroom. She teaches high school age students and she still changes diapers. She said that when she interned with MOID/MID students at Valdosta she only had one time where a student had to be lifted and had to be changed.... but there is a beauty of the well funded schools... we have paraprofessionals to help with that kind of stuff and the chances of me not having that resource is very very small. The other plus with teaching Special Ed., especially MOID/MID the classroom will have a lot of adaptations for the students... special chairs, wheelchairs, assistive technology, so a bunch of stools and adaptations for me as a teacher won't be a big deal either for the teacher... especially compared to if I was in the regular classroom. We'll see what happens. My neighbor offered me to come observe her room one day, and even though she teaches a little bit tough severity, I'll get the picture. At this point the only thing that will stop me from changing my mind is education. I have to have a Master's degree to be able to have my own classroom in MOID/MID Special Ed, so hopefully after my Bachelor's degree I don't crash out academically... I may want too, but I can't! lol.

Okay... that's about it for now. I hope to update this thing a little more often!
